James Anderson

James Anderson is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University and a member of the Data Science Institute. 

Prior to joining Columbia, he was a senior postdoctoral scholar in the Computing and Mathematical Sciences Department at the California Institute of Technology. 

From 2013-16 he held a Junior Research Fellowship at St John’s College, University of Oxford, and was affiliated with the Department of Engineering Science. 

He received his DPhil (PhD) in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford in 2012. 

His research interests include the intersection of control and dynamical systems with machine learning and optimization. Applications of interest include clean energy systems including power grids and plasma fusion.
