Dylan Schmeling
Graduate Student
Dylan joined the PhD program in Plasma Physics at Columbia in 2025. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Applied Physics from Columbia, while working on CSX in the Plasma Physics Lab and the EPOS stellarator at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics. He is interested in research in the application of high-temperature superconductors to plasma physics experiments, in particular stellarator configurations. Outside of the lab, Dylan is an avid photographer and a keen cyclist.
Research focus: Dylan currently works on designing and testing the non-planar coils of the Columbia Stellarator Experiment (CSX) and the necessary diagnostics, with guidance from Professor Carlos Paz-Soldan and Professor Elizabeth Paul
